Room-Based Counselling in Basingstoke for Men
Walk-and-talk therapy is one way to experience counselling, but it is not the right choice for everyone.
Some people prefer the privacy, quiet and stillness of a therapy room. For others, the idea of walking outdoors while talking about personal things may feel uncomfortable.
That is completely fine.
I offer in-person counselling in a private therapy room at The Grosvenor, Basing View, Basingstoke. It is a calm, confidential space where you can sit, think, talk and begin to make sense of what is going on at your own pace.
Why some men prefer room-based therapy
Many men feel unsure about starting therapy.
You might worry it will feel awkward, too emotional, or difficult to explain. You might not know where to begin, or whether what you are dealing with is “serious enough” for counselling.
A private therapy room can offer a steady place to start. There is no need to perform, prepare or have the right words. You can arrive as you are and begin with whatever feels most pressing.
For some men, being in a room creates a clearer boundary between everyday life and the space to talk. It gives you time away from work, responsibilities, family pressure and the expectation to keep going.
What room-based counselling can help with
Room-based counselling can support you with a wide range of issues, including:
Stress
Anxiety and depression
Bereavement and grief
Burnout
Men’s mental health
Relationship difficulties
Male infertility
Sexuality
Feeling unable to cope
You do not need to know exactly what the issue is before getting in touch. Many people start counselling with a general sense that something feels heavy, stuck or hard to carry.
What happens in a session?
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
We meet in a private room and talk about what feels important to you. Some sessions may focus on a specific issue. Others may be more reflective, especially if you are trying to understand what you are feeling or why something keeps coming up.
You set the pace. I will not push you to talk about anything before you are ready.
Counselling is not about being told what to do. It is a confidential space where you can speak honestly, be heard without judgement, and begin to understand yourself more clearly.
A calm space without the clinical feel
For many men, one of the biggest barriers to therapy is the fear that it will feel formal, clinical or uncomfortable.
My aim is to make counselling feel human and approachable.
The therapy room offers privacy and structure, but the work itself is simple: we sit, talk, and make space for what is happening in your life.
You do not need to explain everything perfectly. You do not need to know where the conversation will go. We can start wherever you are.
You can start simply
If you are not sure what to say, you can begin with that. Many people start counselling by saying they feel stressed, stuck, low, angry, overwhelmed or unsure what they need. That is enough.
Room-based or walk-and-talk counselling
Therapy Outdoors offers both room-based counselling and walk-and-talk therapy.
Some people prefer the private room. Others find it easier to talk while walking side by side outdoors. Some may try one option and later choose the other.
Neither option is better. It is about what feels right for you.
If you are unsure, we can talk it through during your free discovery call.

Taking the first step
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you are used to dealing with things on your own.
You do not need to wait until things reach breaking point. If something feels difficult to carry, counselling can give you space to talk it through and begin to find a steadier way forward.
I offer a free 20-minute discovery call. There is no pressure and no commitment. It is simply a chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether counselling feels right for you.
