Walk-and-Talk Therapy in Basingstoke with Terry Bond

For some people, the idea of sitting in a therapy room can feel daunting.

You might worry that you will not know what to say, that it will feel too intense, or that sitting face-to-face will make it harder to open up.

Walk-and-talk therapy offers a different way to begin.

Instead of sitting opposite each other in a room, we walk side by side outdoors at a gentle pace. The session is still counselling. It is still confidential, focused on you, and shaped around what you want to talk about. The difference is the setting.

I offer walk-and-talk therapy in and around Basingstoke, Alton and North Hampshire.

Why walking can help

Walking side by side can make conversation feel less pressured.

You do not need to hold eye contact. You do not need to sit still. You do not need to arrive with everything planned out.

For many men, this can make therapy feel more natural. The movement, space and steady pace can help you talk, pause, think and return to what matters.

It is not about walking far or fast. It is about creating a setting where talking feels manageable.

A less formal way to start therapy

Many men are used to coping alone.

You might be carrying stress, grief, burnout, anxiety, relationship difficulties or a general sense that something does not feel right. You may not know where to begin, or how to explain it.

Walk-and-talk therapy can take some of the pressure away. We can start with what feels most present, even if that is simply saying that things feel heavy.

You do not need to have the right words

Therapy does not have to begin with a clear story. We can walk, talk, pause, and let the conversation find its way.

What happens during a session?

A walk-and-talk session lasts 50 minutes.

We meet at an agreed outdoor location and walk at a pace that feels comfortable. The focus is not fitness, distance or performance. It is a counselling session, held outdoors.

You choose what we talk about. Some sessions may feel reflective. Others may focus on a specific issue, decision or feeling. There may be silence at times too, and that is okay.

The session is led by what you need.

What about privacy?

Outdoor therapy cannot offer the same level of privacy as a closed therapy room, but confidentiality still matters.

We will choose quieter routes where possible, and we can talk beforehand about what would happen if we saw someone either of us knew.

If privacy is your main concern, you may prefer to meet in the therapy room instead. That option is always available.

What if the weather is bad?

Weather is part of working outdoors, but it does not need to make things difficult.

Before we begin, we can agree how we will handle poor weather. Depending on the situation, we may rearrange, move indoors if available, or choose another suitable option.

The aim is to keep the process clear, simple and manageable.

Private room or walk-and-talk therapy

Walk-and-talk therapy is one option, but it is not the only way to work with me.

I also offer in-person counselling in a private therapy room at The Grosvenor, Basing View, Basingstoke.

Some people prefer the privacy and stillness of a room. Others find it easier to talk while walking outdoors. Neither choice is better. It is about what feels right for you.

We can talk through both options during your free discovery call.

Is walk-and-talk therapy right for me?

Walk-and-talk therapy may suit you if sitting face-to-face feels uncomfortable, or if you feel more at ease when moving.

It may also help if you feel stuck, tense, overwhelmed or unsure how to start talking.

It may not be the right option if you need complete privacy, have mobility concerns, or simply prefer the quiet of a room. In that case, private room counselling may be a better fit.

Choose the setting that feels right

You do not have to decide everything straight away. We can talk through the room and walk-and-talk options during your free discovery call, and choose the setting that feels most comfortable for you.

Take the first step

If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, burnt out or unsure where to start, counselling can give you space to talk things through.

You can start with a free 20-minute discovery call. There is no pressure and no commitment. It is simply a chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether counselling feels right for you.

Sessions are £55 and last 50 minutes.
